With speculation mounting that Amazon Fresh is expected to launch in the UK this week, according to reports in The Grocer, a new infographic from IGD highlights the growth opportunities for online grocery shopping in the UK.
The UK is already home to one of the world’s most mature online grocery markets, with eCommerce accounting for approximately 6% of all grocery sales. However according to IGD’s latest ShopperVista survey from January 2016, 42% of British shoppers are open to conversion to online shopping, presenting a significant growth opportunity for retailers and FMCG brands alike.
Mobile strategies are also playing a growing role for today’s time-pressed shoppers: 39% of respondents said they used a tablet and 25% said they used a mobile for their grocery shopping, up from just 16% and 19% respectively in June 2013.
And as we see from our monthly Amazon FastMover reports, ratings and reviews continue to be a key influence driver: 67% of respondents said that reviews influence their purchase decision when online grocery shopping.
