The world’s largest online supermarket Ocado has announced that it is looking to recruit 1,000 new employees – including 100 technology-focused staff – as online grocery shopping continues to grow and Ocado’s sales continue to rise.
Profitero customer Ocado has launched its biggest ever recruitment drive to find over 1,000 new UK staff to support its continued growth.
The retailer’s dramatic expansion has fuelled the search for new team members in all areas of the organisation, including 800 roles for personal shoppers who receive, pack and load customers’ orders using highly advanced technical systems.
10 percent of the jobs will be focused on in-house technology capabilities including robotics and big data, enabling the retailer to continue its commitment to agile software development.
with 10 per cent of those focused on in-house technology capabilities.
Best known as one of the world’s largest online-only supermarkets, Ocado has built an incredible tech infractructure to enable it to automatically pack and deliver your shopping in strict one-hour time slots.

Ocado’s biggest ever recruitment drive is indicative of the pace of change we are seeing in online grocery shopping. IGD’s latest ShopperVista survey from January reveals that 22% of online grocery shoppers used a tablet – up from 16% in June 2013 – and one fifth shopped for groceries online via a smartphone.
As the online channel continues to evolve, retailers are increasingly recognising the need to move faster and innovate, and we can expect to see a step change in scale and pace within the channel over the next year in line with growing demand.
