December 26 is set to be the UK’s biggest online shopping day of 2012, with takings expected to reach £472.5 million, according to IMRG and Experian’s Hitwise.
The IMRG and Experian’s Hitwise service predicts there will be an incredible 126 million visits to webstores on St. Stephen’s Day, known as ‘Boxing Day’ in the UK.
UK shoppers is expected to spend a combined 17 million hours on online shopping on the day – an increase of 31 per cent on the same period in 2011.
“This will be the peak of online shopping in the UK so marketers need to make sure their campaigns are in place to maximise traffic on Boxing Day as consumers make the most of early sales offers,” said
James Murray, digital insight manager at Experian Marketing Services.
He stressed that it was still not too late to promote special offers through email and social media. “Understanding what people are interested in, the best channels to engage customers through and when to reach them will be crucial to success this season.”
