Best Buy is to make its price-matching policy permanent from March . Introduced over the 2012 holiday period, the policy guarantees that the retailer will match the lowest price on offer for a product by an online or a bricks-and-mortar retailer if a shopper provides proof of the competitors’ price.
The retailer hopes that the new permanent policy will end showrooming – shoppers going into stores to carry out research on a product and buying it cheaper on the Internet. Best Buy will price match all of its local competitors, as well as 19 major web-based competitors, for all product categories as the customer requests it. Best Buy’s main rivals include Amazon.com and Walmart.com.
The price-match guarantee is available on Best Buy’s website for more than 1,000 Best Buy stores, more than 400 Best Buy Mobile standalone stores, and telephone-related orders. Target introduced a permanent price-matching policy in recent times.
