Shop Direct Group has reported a 5 per cent rise in total sales over the festive season. The fashion retailer also revealed that sales via mobile devices jumped 150 per cent when compared to the same period last year.
In the six weeks to December 29, 70 per cent of company sales came via the Internet, an increase of 6 per cent from 2011. Mobile devices accounted for 28 per cent of all web-based sales – 150 per cent higher than in 2011 – with mobile spend having increasing by 8 per cent over the past year. The busiest day of the period was December 6 with 8,000 orders being processed in one hour alone.
“Peak trading came later than ever, highlighting customers’ growing trust in the online and mobile retail model and our ability to deliver,” said Shop Direct Group chief executive Alex Baldock. He said that while mobile devices accounted for a record 28 per cent of the firm’s total online sales, tablets were driving two-thirds of those sales. “To ensure we remain a winner, we will continue to invest in delivering a great digital shopping experience for our millions of customers.” Shop Direct’s brands include Littlewoods, Very.co.uk and Isme.
