Ahold USA has appointed Mark McGowan as executive vice president of mechandising. McGowan was previously executive vice president of supply chain at the group’s US division. He started working with Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. in 1991. He held a number of executive roles before being appointed to president of Stop and Shop in 2009.
The new EVP of merchandising will head up a team supporting Ahold USA and its various pisions i.e. Stop & Shop New England, Stop & Shop New York Metro, Giant-Landover and Giant-Carlisle. The four sectors together operate more than 750 supermarkets with approximately 117,000 employees, along with Peapod, the online grocery shopping service. With over $25 billion in sales, the group is one of the top ten food retailers in the US.
McGowan will report directly to James McCann, chief operating officer at Ahold USA, who said he is well suited to take on his new leadership role with the company. “Mark’s strong experience in operations, supply chain and pisional leadership will be a great asset to our merchandising function.” He will take up the position with immediate effect.
